Novelette has been sewing since 1976 and she came to Britain in 1989. Her experience prior to coming to Peckham, London, includes sewing for the prime minister of Jamaica’s children, as well as creating clothing for the wives and children of US ambassadors during the 1980s. She also has experience subcontracting for Burberry.
All her skirt designs were a hit during the summer. The owner of a local boutique, Bias, wore one of novelette’s skirts, and she had to repeat it as it was a hit in Spain. She’s currently working on featuring in Paris menswear during the next trade show. Fashion trendsetters and customers alike love the fact that every style Novelette creates is different, so customers know that no one will have the exact same dress. This is especially important when attending an event.

Welcome to a behind-the-scenes look at a project that means the world to me. When JN Bank UK needed uniforms to mark their historic launch, they turned to me, not just for fashion, but for legacy. The students brought their design ideas, but I brought the patterns, the construction, and the heart. This is more than tailoring—it’s a tribute to Jamaican pride, stitched with purpose and passion. Let’s take you inside the journey.
I’m deeply thankful to be entrusted once again by Jamaica National Bank with a project that speaks to legacy, pride, and progress. After designing and sewing the Jamaica Independence Day costume for the 2015 celebration, I was humbled to be called upon for another milestone—this time, to create the first official uniforms for JN Bank UK, the first Caribbean-owned bank to be granted a UK banking licence.
This final project was more than just stitching fabric—it was stitching history. While students from Lambert College contributed their design ideas, I took full charge of the pattern making and garment construction, transforming concepts into professional uniforms that reflect the dignity and excellence of our Jamaican heritage.
The energy in my workshop was electric as JN staff, teachers, and students visited to share their thoughts and witness the creative process firsthand. Their encouragement and insights added depth to every stitch. The doors of JN Bank UK officially opened on 8th October 2020, marking a powerful moment for Jamaicans in the diaspora. To be part of this journey—bringing Jamaican identity, professionalism, and pride into the heart of London—is a blessing I don’t take lightly.
